Not every interview question is useful. Not every interview question is clever. Not every interview question is intelligent. Some questions are nothing short of idiotic. Why hiring managers decide to ask them is a mystery, but some hiring managers commonly ask questions that are only going to receive boring and uninformative answers.
One such stupid job interview question is “How would you rate me as an interviewer?” Though you won’t find it at a lot of interviews, it is not an uncommon interview question. Below are examples of how to answer this stupid question.
“I’ve been through hundreds of job interviews in my day and I can say that you are without a doubt the worst interviewer I have ever seen. Your hands are sweaty, your questions are condescending, your listening skills are abysmal, you smell like cheese, and you have a severe case of adult acne that makes me not want to look at you. Really, if I could have interviewed with anyone else, I would have. This entire experience has been nothing short of a disaster, and if you give me the job I’d like an opportunity to introduce you to a product called ‘Soap.’”
“This has been a great experience. Your questions are interesting and I’ve had a wonderful time getting to know you and your company. I can tell by the way you present yourself that this company is something special, and I look forward to being a part of it.”
Hey, guess what? You should answer that the interviewer was excellent. That is why this is a stupid interview question. Never say that the interviewer had any flaws. It is a good idea to relate the interviewer to the company, but that is minor. As long as you mention that your interviewer has been great, you will do fine.
