In the last post we discussed how interview preparation is easily the best way to reduce your anxiety before a job interview. Today, we will look at a more conventional way to reduce anxiety before your job interview.
Tire Out Your Body
Anxiety is mostly psychological. We fear what may happen during a job interview and so we experience anxiety. However, how do we experience anxiety? Anxiety is experienced on a physical level. Your stomach churns a little, your body shakes, your legs feel jumpy – anxiety and stress show themselves in many physical ways.
One of the best ways to reduce these effects is by burning your body’s energy, so that it has less energy to cause you to feel that level of stress. That is why one idea is that several hours before your interview you engage in serious, intense exercise. Use both aerobic and anaerobic exercises to make your body physically tired. This will help reduce the feelings of anxiety that occur with your psychological anxiety. Afterward it would be a good idea to shower.
Eat and Sleep
You should combine your exercise with great nutrition and a full night’s sleep. Both empty stomachs and sleep deprivation cause the same symptoms as anxiety. The more you lack either of those, the more your anxiety will feel worse and your symptoms more obvious to the employer. Keep yourself extremely well rested and eat only healthy foods to keep yourself feeling fresh before the interview.
Take Care of Yourself
Job interviews are always going to be stressful. In the next post, we will look at a few psychological ways to reduce anxiety and help you feel more comfortable during the interview. Just remember that by taking care of your body and keeping it tired and loose (while your mind is awake and active), you will at least reduce many of the physical symptoms which will improve your overall job interview comfort.
