“I occupy my time at work extremely well! In fact, when I’m not working, I spend my time on Facebook AND listening to music AND talking on my cell phone AND playing FarmVille! That’s four things at once so I’m always busy!”
This is an awkward question. How well do you occupy your time? Very well. The answer is boring and unremarkable. When faced with this type of question, the usual response is to talk about how you are a hard worker and always keeping busy. That may not be the best approach, though, because it doesn’t say much about your abilities.
Instead, a better idea is to focus your answer on how you plan your day. This allows you to show the interviewer you are an organized employee while still answering the question, albeit indirectely.
“I work hard all day and will not take breaks until the project is done.”
Not interesting enough, and something that anyone can say.
‘Every morning I look at my project schedule and plan the course of my day, focusing first on any high priority items and following up that work with any long term projects that could use a head start.”
This answers the question indirectly – by showing that you put thought into how you plan every day – but also makes you look like an organized, hardworking employee.
